Wallet line hit its daily limit? Know your limits and fees

Wallet and InstaPay limits and transfer fees every shop owner should know, and how to track each line so you are not caught out mid-day.

A customer wants to send EGP 15,000, you open the line, and it refuses. It is not a network fault. The daily limit is used up. Shops that do transfers, deposits and withdrawals run into this often, usually during the rush.

This post goes through the published wallet and InstaPay limits and the transfer fees, then shows how to organise your lines so it does not catch you out. These numbers change from time to time, so treat this as a guide and confirm with the operator or bank before you plan around it.

Wallet limits: the published numbers

According to the published maximums for individuals, a Vodafone Cash wallet has a daily limit of EGP 60,000 and a monthly limit of EGP 200,000. E& , Orange and WE show about the same figures for their established wallets.

One exception matters if you open a new line: new WE Pay wallets that signed up from 6 May 2025 started with EGP 10,000 a day and EGP 60,000 a month, and after 90 days the limits were updated to match the other wallets. So a brand new line should not carry heavy traffic in its first days.

ChannelPublished limit
Vodafone Cash wallet (individual)60,000 daily, 200,000 monthly
ATM withdrawal from a wallet30,000 daily, 100,000 monthly
One InstaPay transaction70,000
InstaPay daily total120,000
InstaPay monthly total400,000

Under the central bank rules as published, one person can open up to 3 wallets on their national ID, but only one wallet per mobile line.

Fees: what you pay and what you earn

According to Vodafone's official page, a transfer to another Vodafone Cash wallet costs EGP 1. A transfer to a wallet on another network costs 0.5% of the amount, with a minimum of EGP 1 and a maximum of EGP 15.

So sending EGP 10,000 to another network costs EGP 15, not EGP 50. The fee is capped, so the bigger the amount, the smaller the effective percentage.

What matters for the shop: that is the fee on the transfer itself. The commission you charge your customer is a separate thing, and it is your real income. Keep the two apart in your books.

Why limits hurt a shop

A shop runs many customers through the same line. One deposits 5,000, another withdraws 8,000, a third sends 20,000, and the limit applies to the line as a whole, not to each customer. If the line is a personal one rather than a business line, you hit the ceiling faster than you expect.

The monthly limit is the sneakier one. It runs out at month end when nobody is watching, and the customer who came every day starts going to the next shop.

If your current limit is not enough, ask the operator or bank about other account types for business activity and what their limits are. Limits differ by account type, so do not assume.

A routine for your lines

  1. Write down each line's daily and monthly limit from the official source, not from hearsay.
  2. Ask the operator exactly what counts toward the limit: withdrawals and transfers only, or more.
  3. Spread the work over more than one line instead of loading a single one.
  4. Check at mid-month and again near month end how much monthly room each line has left, and shift traffic before it runs out.
  5. Keep customers' money and your money apart: the wallet balance is not your profit, only the commission is.
  6. At shift close, count the drawer and the wallet balances together.

How Mobilat helps

In Mobilat you record each network (Vodafone, Etisalat, Orange, WE and InstaPay) with a live balance. You can set a daily and a monthly limit per wallet, so you know a line is getting close before the customer is standing there.

You also set commission and fee rules per network (percent or fixed, with a minimum and a maximum). When you pick the network and amount, the system works out your commission and the network fee. Cash and the wallet move in opposite directions, and only the commission counts as income, so a transfer amount is never mistaken for profit. More on the cash, wallets and shifts page.

At shift close you count the drawer by note, and any shortage or overage is recorded on the shift and on whoever ran it. If the drawer is short and you do not know why, read Drawer short at closing?.

To try it, there are 14 free days with everything and no card, and you can open the demo without signing up. The Wallets plan alone is EGP 99 a month if you only do transfers and InstaPay without running a shop; see the pricing page.

The limits of all this

  • Mobilat does not connect to the operators or the bank, so you type in the limits and fee rules and update them when they change.
  • The published numbers above can change by decision of the central bank or the operator. Check each line's official app.
  • Limits depend on account type and when the line was opened, so your line may have a different limit.
